Help for our local community
Cambodia continues to recover and rebuild after the traumas the country has experienced since 1970. We have come a long way but there is still some way to go and Cambodia is still one of the world’s poorest nations. At Angkor Holiday Hotel we are keen to play our full part in supporting our local community and we have several options for guests who may wish to join us in our endeavours.
Membership of ConCERT (Connecting Communities, Environment & Responsible Tourism)
ConCERT was established to reduce poverty by increasing support for the most disadvantaged people of Siem Reap. ConCERT makes it easy for visitors to get involved and has more than 20 NGO members who are all well managed and financially transparent. They cover many areas of activity including: schools, clinics, orphanages, community centres, agricultural development, vocational training, supporting vulnerable people, water supplies, environmental protection & education, landmine removal, landmine victim rehabilitation, combating human trafficking.
They know in detail what each organisation does, and the type of help it needs. In this way ConCERT helps people to link up with organisations that need the kind of help they can give. www.concertcambodia.org has details about all their member organisations with links to their websites, and background information about Cambodia and Siem Reap. There are also sections on responsible tourism, responsible volunteering, the causes and effects of poverty, and pages giving ideas on the many ways to offer support.
In addition to information about their member organisations, ConCERT staff inform visitors on the various other ways they can help. They also inform visitors about the wider issues in Cambodia, and give advice on some of the things it’s best not to do.
